【起源】1.源于姬姓。春秋时期，晋国有一个公族大夫封邑于上党（今山西长治），子孙以封邑名称为党氏。2.源于任姓。夏禹后裔，鲁庄二十四年筑台临党氏，故地在今山东曲阜东北，其后为党氏。3.新中国成立后，部分孤儿院中的孤儿也被冠以党姓，以纪念中国共产党的养育之恩。

【Meaning】 The character Dang (党) refers to an ancient administrative or organizational unit. In ancient times, a local division of five hundred households was called a "Dang." According to the Rites of Zhou (Zhou Li): "Five Zu (clans) make a Dang, and one Zu consists of a hundred households." Essentially, it was a unit of organization five times larger than a clan.
【Origins】
From the Ji (姬) Surname: During the Spring and Autumn period, a noble official from the royal family of the State of Jin was enfeoffed in Shangdang (modern-day Changzhi, Shanxi). His descendants adopted the name of the fief as their surname.
From the Ren (任) Surname: Descendants of Yu the Great. Records from the 24th year of Duke Zhuang of Lu mention the construction of a platform overlooking the "Dang Clan" territory (located northeast of modern-day Qufu, Shandong). Their descendants subsequently adopted Dang as their surname.
Modern Honorific Origin: After the founding of the People's Republic of China, some orphans in child welfare institutions were given the surname "Dang" (meaning "The Party") to honor the care and upbringing provided by the Communist Party of China.
