【起源】出自姬姓，以邑名为氏。周成王封少子臻于单邑（今河南孟津），子孙以封地为氏，世代相传单氏。源于姬姓，出自远古尧、舜时期商贤哲单卷的后裔，以先祖名为氏。相传，单卷为远古后期游牧于菏泽四泽六水之地的东夷民族中影响很大的政治领袖、氏族首领，因善道术，有德行，被时人尊称为单父，曾居于单父之地(今山东单县)。

【Origins】

1. From the Ji (姬) Surname (Western Zhou): Derived from the name of a fief. King Cheng of Zhou enfeoffed his younger son, Zhen, in Shan (present-day Mengjin, Henan). His descendants adopted the name of this fief as their surname, passing it down through generations.

2. From the Sage Shan Juan (Era of Yao and Shun): Descended from the sage Shan Juan, who lived during the legendary era of Emperors Yao and Shun. According to legend, Shan Juan was an influential political and clan leader of the Dongyi people, who lived a nomadic life in the "four marshes and six waters" of Heze. Because of his mastery of the Dao and his high moral character, he was revered as Shan Fu (Father Shan). He resided in the land of Shanfu (present-day Shan County, Shandong), and his descendants adopted his name as their family name.
