魏氏圖騰釋義 

【釋義】 魏從「巍」而來。巍，高也。《論語》註曰：「巍巍，高大之稱也」。

【起源】 公元前661年，畢萬在晉國攻滅霍、耿、魏三國的戰鬥中立下大功，晉獻公把魏國舊地（今山西芮城北）賜給畢萬作為封邑，並命他為大夫。此後畢萬家族勢力日益強大，遂以邑名為氏。公元前453年，畢萬裔孫魏桓子（魏駒）與韓康子、趙襄子聯合攻滅知伯並瓜分其領地。桓子之孫魏都正式建立魏國，稱魏文侯。魏國是戰國七雄之一，最初定都安邑（今山西夏縣西北），至魏惠王時遷都大梁（今開封）。公元前225年魏國被秦國所滅，此後國民以國名為氏，極大地擴充了原本以邑為氏的魏姓人口。

Interpretation of the Wei Clan Totem 

[Definition] The character "Wei" (魏) is derived from "Wei" (巍), meaning high or lofty. An annotation in the Analects states: "Weiwei is a term used to describe something towering and grand."

[Origin] In 661 BC, Bi Wan achieved great military distinction during the State of Jin's campaigns to conquer the states of Huo, Geng, and Wei. Duke Xian of Jin granted the former lands of the State of Wei (north of present-day Ruicheng, Shanxi) to Bi Wan as his fief and appointed him a high official (Dafu). Subsequently, Bi Wan's clan grew in power and adopted the name of their fief as their surname. In 453 BC, Bi Wan's descendant Wei Huanzi (Wei Ju), in alliance with Han Kangzi and Zhao Xiangzi, defeated Zhi Bo and partitioned his territory. Huanzi’s grandson, Wei Du, formally established the State of Wei and became known as Marquis Wen of Wei. As one of the "Seven Hero States" of the Warring States period, its capital was initially at Anyi (northwest of present-day Xia County, Shanxi) before King Hui of Wei moved the capital to Daliang (Kaifeng). In 225 BC, the State of Wei was conquered by Qin. Following this, the citizens of the state adopted its name as their surname, significantly increasing the population of the Wei clan which had originally been founded based on the fiefdom.
