2. The Fief of Kang: He was initially enfeoffed in Kang (northwest of present-day Yuzhou, Henan) and was known as Kang Shu (Uncle of Kang).

3. The State of Wei: Later, he was enfeoffed by King Cheng of Zhou to establish the State of Wei surrounding the former Shang capital. He set up his capital in Chaoge (present-day Qi County, Henan) and was thus called Wei Kang Shu.

4. Adoption of the Surname: The cadet descendants of Wei Kang Shu adopted his original fief name, Kang, as their family name.
