Interpretation of the Lu Clan Totem
[Definition] The original meaning of "Lu" (盧) is a stove or brazier (爐). In Oracle Bone Script, the character "Lu" resembles the overall physical structure and shape of an ancient fire stove.
[Origin] The Lu surname was formed in the State of Qi during the early Spring and Autumn period. It is a surname derived from the name of a fief (Caiyi) and shares the same ancestral origin as the Gao clan. Gao, the son of Duke Wen of Qi (Jiang Chi), had a grandson named Xi (known as Gao Xi). Due to his meritorious service, Gao Xi was bestowed with his grandfather's name, "Gao," as his surname by Duke Huan of Qi. Gao Xi served as a high minister (Zhengqing) of the State of Qi and was granted the fief of Lu (present-day Luchengwa, Changqing County, Shandong). One branch of his descendants adopted the name of this fief as their surname, which became the Lu clan.
