【释义】滕，“水涌也”。滕的本义是水往上涌。在金文中，滕的字形是以火为图腾，从联，从火，不从水，。

【起源】1、出自姬姓，为黄帝后裔十二姓氏之一。相传黄帝的二十五子中，分别得到十二个姓，第五就是滕姓，这是起源最早的一支滕姓。2、亦出自姬姓，为西周时周文王第十四子错叔秀之后，以国名为氏。西周初年，周武王封自己的弟弟，亦即周文王第十四子错叔绣于滕地，建立了滕国（在今山东省滕州市西南）。战国初期，滕国被越国所灭，但后来又恢复起来，不久又灭于宋国，原滕国王族遂以国名命姓，成为滕姓。

【Origins】

1. From the Ji (姬) Surname (Ancient): One of the twelve original surnames of the descendants of the Yellow Emperor. Legend states that among the Yellow Emperor's twenty-five sons, twelve were granted distinct surnames; the fifth was Teng. This is the earliest recorded origin of the name.

2. From the Ji (姬) Surname (Western Zhou): Descended from Cuo Shu Xiu, the fourteenth son of King Wen of Zhou. During the early Western Zhou Dynasty, King Wu enfeoffed his brother, Cuo Shu Xiu, in the territory of Teng (southwest of present-day Tengzhou, Shandong), establishing the State of Teng.

3. The Fall of the State: During the Warring States period, the State of Teng was initially conquered by the State of Yue, later restored, and finally annexed by the State of Song. The members of the Teng royal family adopted the name of their state as their surname to preserve their identity.
