1. From the Jiang (姜) Surname: Jiang Wenshu, a descendant of Bo Yi (who was a descendant of the Yan Emperor), was enfeoffed at the beginning of the Western Zhou to establish the State of Xu. One branch of his descendants adopted his courtesy name, "Wen," as their surname.

2. From the State of Wei: During the Spring and Autumn period, there was a powerful general in the State of Wei named Sun Wenzi. He was a figure of great influence, and his descendants adopted his ancestor's name as their surname, establishing another line of the Wen clan.
