【釋義】 丘即是山，丘是一個會意字，從北、從一，一表示地，北邊為丘。

【起源】 邱姓由丘姓所改，來源有二：1. 西周初由呂尚（姜太公）建立的齊國，都營丘（今山東臨淄），傳至第六位國君齊胡公時，徙都薄姑（今山東博興），但呂尚的子孫仍有部分人留在營丘，以地名為氏，即丘氏。2. 西周初由媯滿建立的陳國，都宛丘（今河南淮陽），居者以地名為氏，稱丘氏。 丘改作「邱」原因有二：一是丘、邱古時通用；二是為了避孔子名諱（孔丘）。清雍正三年（1725 年）朝廷發出通知：除四書五經外，凡遇「丘」字，一律寫作「邱」。

Interpretation of the Qiu (邱) Clan Totem

Definition of the Character: "丘" (Qiu) means a hill or mountain. It is an associative compound character composed of "North" (北) and "One" (一). The horizontal line represents the ground, and the upper part signifies a mound or hill rising to the north.

Origin: The surname Qiu (邱) is a modification of the original Qiu (丘). There are two primary sources:

• 1. During the early Western Zhou, Lü Shang (Jiang Taigong) established the State of Qi with its capital at Yingqiu (modern-day Linzi, Shandong). When the sixth ruler, Duke Hu of Qi, moved the capital to Bogu, some of Lü Shang's descendants remained in Yingqiu and adopted the location as their surname.

  2. The State of Chen, established by Gui Man, had its capital at Wanqiu (modern-day Huaiyang, Henan). Those living there adopted the place name as their surname.

• The change from 丘 to 邱 occurred for two reasons: historically, the two were interchangeable; more importantly, it was to observe a naming taboo for Confucius (whose given name was Kong Qiu). In 1725 (the 3rd year of Emperor Yongzheng's reign), the Qing government decreed that except in the Confucian Classics, the character 丘 must be written as 邱 to show respect.
