【Meaning】
Yue (岳) refers to towering mountain ranges and majestic peaks. In Oracle Bone Script, the character Yue (岳) was identical to its complex form Yue (嶽), composed of the components for Mountain (山), Beast (兽), and Speech (言). It symbolizes a sacred place where nature, spirits, and human prayer converge.
【Origins】
From the Descendants of Bo Yi (Ancient Officials): The lineage originates from the descendants of Bo Yi (also known as Bo Yi or Bo Yi), a high-ranking minister under Emperor Zhuanxu. The surname is derived from an official title.
The Office of the Four Peaks (Si Yue): In high antiquity, there was an official title called "Si Yue" (The Four Peaks), responsible for managing the sacrificial rites of the mountains. Since the ancients believed mountains were divine spirits requiring extreme reverence, this was a highly prestigious position. The supreme leader in charge of these rites was called Tai Yue.
The First Tai Yue: Legend has it that Bo Yi, a descendant of the Yan Emperor’s clan (Gonggong-shi), served as the Grand Priest for Emperor Zhuanxu and became the first Tai Yue. His four sons governed the feudal lords in the four cardinal directions, earning the title Si Yue. Their descendants adopted the official title as their family name, Yue.
