【释义】安，安定、安静之义，会意字。甲骨文的“安”字，是一个房子里面有一女子，古人用“家有女子即安定”。

【起源】黄帝之子昌意的二儿子名安，居于西方，自号安息国（今伊朗高原）。到了汉朝，汉武帝刘彻派博望侯张骞出使西域抵达安息国后，始有往来。安息国王传到太子安清时，他不愿当国王而向往佛学，将王位让给叔父，自己出家为僧。东汉桓帝刘志建和二年(公元148年)，安清来河南洛阳传佛教，定居下来。安清的后裔子孙以及随从入汉的随员们，皆以原国名为姓，称安氏。

1. Descendants of the Yellow Emperor: An, the second son of Chang Yi (himself a son of the Yellow Emperor), resided in the West and founded the Kingdom of Arsacid (known in Chinese history as Anxi, located in the modern-day Iranian Plateau).

2. The Prince Who Became a Monk: During the Han Dynasty, after Zhang Qian's mission to the Western Regions, communication opened between China and Anxi. When the crown prince of Anxi, An Qing (also known as An Shigao), was due to inherit the throne, he chose to pursue Buddhist studies instead. He abdicated in favor of his uncle and became a monk.

3. Migration to the East: In 148 AD (Eastern Han Dynasty), An Qing traveled to Luoyang, Henan, to propagate Buddhism and eventually settled there. His descendants, along with the officials who accompanied him from the Western Regions, adopted the first character of their home country, An, as their surname.
