2. The Imperial Decree of the Northern/Western Wei: During the Eastern Han Dynasty, there was a Grand Commandant named Qiao Xuan. His sixth-generation descendant, Qiao Qin, served as the Internal Secretary of Pingyuan during the Northern Wei. He followed Emperor Xiaowu to join the Western Wei established by Yuwen Tai. One day, on a sudden whim, Yuwen Tai commanded Qiao Qin to remove the "Wood" radical (木) from his surname "Qiao" (桥), changing it to Qiao (乔). This change was meant to evoke the meaning of "lofty and far-reaching."
