【起源】出自姬姓，是周文王姬昌的后代，以谥号为姓。春秋晋国有大夫狐鞫居的族人狐射姑与太傅阳处父不和，鞫居为他刺杀阳处父，结果被赵盾处死。死后谥为续简子，世称续简伯，他的子孙后代便以其谥号为姓，称简姓。

This structure signifies that bamboo pieces inscribed with text were strung together in order, much like the panels of a folding door, which could be folded or bundled. The gaps between the slips allowed moonlight to pass through. The original meaning of Jian was "to inspect" (synonymous with 检), but with the advent of "bamboo books," the meaning shifted to refer to written documents and records.

1. From the Ji (姬) Surname: The lineage consists of descendants of King Wen of Zhou (Ji Chang), with the surname derived from a posthumous title.

2. Historical Context: During the Spring and Autumn period in the State of Jin, there was a conflict between Hu Shegu (a kinsman of the high official Hu Juju) and the Grand Tutor Yang Chufu. Hu Juju assassinated Yang Chufu on Shegu's behalf, but was subsequently executed by Zhao Dun. After his death, Hu Juju was given the posthumous title Xu Jianzi (also known as Xu Jianbo). His descendants adopted his posthumous title, Jian, as their surname.
