2. The State of Lai: Shu Ying, a younger brother of King Wu of Zhou (the 19th son of King Wen), was enfeoffed in the State of Lai with the rank of Viscount. The state was located in present-day Baoxin Town, Xi County, Henan, and its rulers were known as Lai Zi (Viscount of Lai).

3. Annexation and Adoption: In 538 BC (the 4th year of Duke Zhao of Lu), the State of Lai was annexed by King Ling of Chu. Following the fall of their nation, the descendants and subjects adopted the state name, Lai, as their family name to preserve their heritage.
