【Origins】
From the State of Jiao (Lineage of Shennong): After the establishment of the Western Zhou Dynasty, King Wu of Zhou enfeoffed the descendants of Shennong (the legendary Yan Emperor) in the land of Jiao (Jiao City in present-day Shan County, Henan), where they established the State of Jiao.
Annexation and Adoption: During the Spring and Autumn period, the State of Jiao was annexed by the State of Jin. Following the fall of their nation, the royal descendants adopted the name of their state as their surname, thus becoming the Jiao clan.
