【起源】主要出自嬴姓（赵奢为伯益后裔，属嬴姓赵氏）。战国时期，赵国名将赵奢有大才、善用兵，尤其擅长指挥骑兵。公元前270年，秦国大军进攻赵国的阏与（Èyǔ，今山西和顺），赵奢奉命率军救援。他通过缜密的侦察掌握敌情，随后率部急行军赶往战场，抢先占据高地据高临下，最终大破秦军。因这一卓越战功，赵奢被赵惠文王册封为“马服君”。赵奢过世后葬于马服山（今河北邯郸市西北），他的子孙后代便以他被赐封的封号为氏，称为“马服氏”，后来逐渐简化省去“服”字，改称为单姓“马氏”。

Ma (马) refers to the horse—an animal and one of humanity’s closest companions throughout history.
Origin
Origin
During the Warring States period, the State of Zhao had a renowned general named Zhao She.
He was highly capable, skilled in military strategy, and especially adept at using cavalry.
In 270 BCE, when Qin forces attacked Eyu (modern Heshun, Shanxi), Zhao She was ordered to lead a rescue mission. He first scouted the enemy situation, then led a rapid march to seize the high ground and launch a decisive attack, inflicting a major defeat on the Qin army.
For his great military achievements, he was granted the noble title Lord of Ma Fu (马服君).
Northwest of today’s Handan in Hebei stands Ma Fu Mountain, named because Zhao She was buried there.
Zhao She’s descendants adopted his conferred title as their surname, first calling themselves Ma Fu, and later simplifying it to Ma (马).
