【释义】管的本义是一种乐器。是一种竹子做成的有六个孔的横吹的管乐器，象征十二月之音。“管”引申为管理、统辖、管教、管制等意，中国古代乐队奏乐时，由管领奏，也用管作乐杖来指挥合奏。

【起源】周武王灭商以后建立了周朝，封其三弟叔鲜，史称管叔在管(今河南郑州)，建立了管国，子孙以国为氏。

周穆王姬满执政时期，将自己的一个庶子分封于原管叔之邑(今河南郑州)。传至春秋时期的管仲，是春秋时期著名的齐国政治家。子孙以先祖封邑为氏。

【Origins】

From the State of Guan (Western Zhou): After King Wu of Zhou defeated the Shang Dynasty and established the Zhou Dynasty, he enfeoffed his third younger brother, Shu Xian (historically known as Guan Shu), in Guan (present-day Zhengzhou, Henan). He established the State of Guan, and his descendants adopted the state name as their surname.

2. From the Descendants of King Mu: During the reign of King Mu of Zhou (Ji Man), he enfeoffed one of his concubine's sons in the former territory of Guan Shu.

3. The Lineage of Guan Zhong: This lineage eventually produced Guan Zhong, the most famous statesman of the State of Qi during the Spring and Autumn period. His descendants continued to use the ancestral fief name as their surname, cementing the prestige of the Guan clan.
