The original meaning of 符 (Fu) is tally or trust. In ancient China, these were known as "Fuxin" (Tally Credentials). They served as official permits for passing through checkpoints and, more importantly, as sacred tokens used by the imperial court to mobilize troops and horses. 3. The Office of Fuxiling: In Qin, Gong Ya served as the Fuxiling (the official in charge of the imperial tallies and seals). His descendants adopted his official title as their family name. The Fu surname originated over 2,000 years ago, with its ancestral roots developing in the area of present-day Huaiyang, Henan.
