【Origins】

1. From the Zi (子) Surname: This lineage originates from Zi He, the younger brother of the 14th monarch of the State of Song (Duke Xuan of Song) during the Spring and Autumn period.

2. Historical Context: Zi He reigned for nine years. In his final decree, he chose to pass the throne back to Duke Xuan's son, Yu Yi, and commanded his own sons to leave the State of Song and move to the State of Zheng to avoid succession conflicts.

3. The Posthumous Title: After Zi He passed away, Yu Yi ascended the throne (known as Duke Shang of Song). To honor his uncle's selflessness, he granted Zi He the posthumous title "Mu," and he is recorded in history as Duke Mu of Song. His descendants adopted this posthumous title as their surname.
