【释义】祁，是地名和山名。山西有一个祁县，甘肃礼县的一座山叫祁山。祁即祈。都从衣。但一个从“阝”，一个从“斤”。祁即祈。在甲骨文中。祁的本义是向上天或神明求福。

【起源】黄帝之子二十五宗，其得姓者十四人，为十二姓，第三为祁姓。

春秋时期晋国献侯四世孙奚的封地，以封邑为氏。奚为晋国大夫，受赐食邑于祁（今山西祁县古镇），以邑为氏，称祁奚。后裔子孙以先祖封邑名称为姓氏，称祁氏。
