【釋義】 白的本義是透明、光亮，表示天色已亮，雪白世界。

【起源】 1. 春秋時，秦國（都今陝西鳳翔）上大夫蹇叔的兩個兒子都是秦國的名將，小兒子名丙，字白乙，史稱白乙丙。子孫以他的字為氏，即白氏。 2. 另有一支出自羋姓，系春秋時楚平王太子建之子白公勝的後代。白公勝姓羋，名勝，任楚國大夫，被封在白邑（今河南息縣包信鎮），因楚邑大夫皆稱公，故稱為白公。他於公元前 479 年發動政變，後被攻殺，子孫以他的封邑為氏，又形成一支白氏。

Interpretation of the Bai (白) Clan Totem

Definition of the Character: The original meaning of "白" (Bai) is transparency and brightness. It signifies the breaking of dawn when the sky lights up, or a world covered in snow-white purity.

Origin: 1. During the Spring and Autumn period, the two sons of Jian Shu, a high official of the State of Qin (centered in modern-day Fengxiang, Shaanxi), were both famous generals. The younger son was named Bing, with the courtesy name Baiyi (historically known as Baiyi Bing). His descendants adopted his courtesy name as their surname, establishing the Bai clan. 2. Another branch originated from the Mi (羋) surname, descending from Bai Gong Sheng (Duke of Bai), the son of Crown Prince Jian of King Ping of Chu. Sheng served as a high official in the State of Chu and was enfeoffed in the Fief of Bai (modern-day Baoxin Town, Xi County, Henan). Since district officials in Chu were titled "Gong" (Duke), he was known as the Duke of Bai. In 479 BC, he launched a coup but was ultimately defeated and killed. His descendants took the name of his fief as their surname, forming another major branch of the Bai family.
