【释义】 湛，古水名。发源于河南宝丰县内，东流至叶县，注入北汝河。在湛河流经的地区，有不少以湛为名字命名的山、村。
【起源】 1、源自古湛国。古湛国在河阳轵县湛城，故地在今河南济源，属于以国为氏。另外，湛氏亦有因居于古湛水（在今河南宝丰南）之滨而以水为氏者。2、源于姒姓，出自夏王朝早期大禹氏族后代，属于以分封国名为氏。上古夏朝时，有个斟灌氏国，是大禹的氏族中的一支建立的诸侯国（在今山东寿光东北斟灌店）。后斟灌国灭亡，其子孙各取“斟”、“灌”二字的一半，合成为一个“湛”字，遂成湛氏。

【Meaning】
Zhan (湛) was originally the name of an ancient river. It originated in Baofeng County, Henan, flowed eastward to Ye County, and emptied into the North Ru River. In the regions through which the Zhan River flowed, many mountains and villages were named after "Zhan."
【Origin】
Derived from the ancient State of Zhan: Located in Zhan City, Zhi County, Heyang (modern-day Jiyuan, Henan). The inhabitants adopted the state name as their surname. Additionally, "Zhan River" refers to the ancient waterway south of Baofeng, Henan.
Derived from the Si (姒) surname: This lineage traces back to the descendants of the Great Yu’s clan during the early Xia Dynasty. During the ancient Xia period, there was a vassal state called Zhenguan (斟灌), established by a branch of Great Yu's clan (located northeast of modern-day Shouguang, Shandong). According to tradition, the surname was formed by taking one half of each character in "Zhenguan" (斟灌) and combining them to create the character Zhan (湛), which then became the clan name.
