【起源】1.出自姬姓。西周文王子唐叔虞被封在晋国，后代有靖侯。晋靖侯的孙子名宾，被封于栾邑（今河北栾城），世称栾宾。后代以封邑地为姓氏，称栾氏。2.出自姜姓。西周的时候，姜子牙被封于齐，建立齐国。春秋时，齐惠公的儿子名坚，字子栾，子孙为栾氏。

【Meaning】 The character Luan (栾) literally refers to the name of a tree. The Luan tree (Goldenrain tree) is a deciduous tree also known as Luanhua or the "Lantern Tree" due to its distinctive fruit husks.
【Origin】
From the Ji (姬) Surname: After the founding of the Western Zhou, Tang Shu Yu (son of King Wen of Zhou) was enfeoffed in the State of Jin. His descendant was Marquis Jing of Jin. The grandson of Marquis Jing, named Bin, was granted the fief of Luan (modern-day Luancheng, Hebei) and became known as Luan Bin. His descendants adopted the name of the fief as their surname.
From the Jiang (姜) Surname: During the Western Zhou, Jiang Ziya (Grand Duke Wang) was enfeoffed in the State of Qi. During the Spring and Autumn period, Jian, the son of Duke Hui of Qi, had the courtesy name Ziluan. His descendants adopted the surname Luan to honor him.
