【起源】1、出自少昊，又称金天氏，居在穷桑（今山东曲阜市北），登上帝位，号穷桑氏。子孙以号为氏，称穷桑氏，后简为桑氏。2、出自秦国。春秋时期秦国公族有叫公孙枝的，字子桑，在秦穆公时期担任秦国大夫，子孙以字为氏，为桑氏。 3、源于神农氏，出自炎帝之妻桑氏，以先祖名为氏。

【Meaning】 The character Sang (桑) refers to the name of a tree. It is a broad-leaved deciduous tree (Mulberry) whose leaves are used for feeding silkworms. Its fruit, known as the mulberry berry (Sangshen), is edible and highly nutritious.
【Origin】
From Shao Hao: Also known as Jintian Shi, he resided in Qiongsang (north of present-day Qufu, Shandong). Upon ascending the throne, he was titled Qiongsang Shi. His descendants adopted the title as their surname, which was later simplified to Sang.
From the State of Qin: During the Spring and Autumn period, there was a member of the Qin royal family named Gongsun Zhi, whose courtesy name was Zi Sang. He served as a high official (Dafu) during the reign of Duke Mu of Qin. His descendants adopted his courtesy name as their surname.
From Shennong Shi: Originating from the wife of the Yan Emperor (Shennong), who belonged to the Sang clan. Her descendants adopted her name as their surname.
