Derived from the Feng (風) Surname: Descendants of the ancient Lilu Clan (栗陸氏). According to ancient legends, after Fuxi, Nüwa ascended to the throne and enfeoffed twelve clans as feudal lords, all of whom carried the Feng surname. The Lilu Clan resided in the north, and their descendants eventually adopted the surname Li.
Derived from the Zi (子) Surname: Li was an ancient state during the Shang Dynasty (located in present-day Chengguan Town, Xiayi County, Henan). After the state was conquered by the Zhou Dynasty, its people adopted the name of their state as their surname.
