【Meaning】
The character 景 (Jing) originally means "bright light." Wherever light reaches, objects cast a "shadow" (阴). Later generations designated the sunny/bright side as Guang (光 - light) and the shaded side as Ying (影 - shadow). Its primary meaning refers to the reflection or shadow of an object created by light—the intangible image or "virtual scene" of a physical entity.
【Origins】
From the Mi (芈) Surname: This lineage traces back to the descendants of Emperor Zhuanxu (Gaoyang-shi). Jilian, the sixth son of Lu Zhong, is the founding ancestor of the Mi surname. During the Spring and Autumn period, a branch of the Chu royal clan became the Jing family. They were one of the three prestigious royal clans of Chu (Zhao, Qu, and Jing). They are the descendants of the Chu Grand Official Jing Cha, and they adopted the name of their fief as their surname.
From the Jiang (姜) Surname: Descendants of the Yan Emperor. During the reign of King Cheng of Zhou, Jiang Ziya was enfeoffed in the State of Qi. After the death of Chujiu, the 26th monarch of Qi, he was given the posthumous title "Jing," known historically as Duke Jing of Qi. His cadet descendants adopted his posthumous title as their surname.
