【起源】源于姬姓，出自春秋时期秦国丞相百里奚之子百里视，以先祖名字为氏。虞仲之后有百里溪，为虞国之公族大夫。晋献公灭虞（今山西平陆）。春秋时期，秦国丞相百里奚之子百里视，字孟明，为秦国将军。百里视骁勇善战，击败过当时最强大的晋国军队，为秦国后来在西部称霸奠定了基础，子孙以字为氏。

【Origin】 The surname originates from the Ji (姬) clan, descending from Baili Shi (also known as Mengming), the son of Baili Xi, who was the Prime Minister of the State of Qin during the Spring and Autumn period.
Baili Xi was a noble official of the State of Yu and a descendant of Yu Zhong. After the State of Jin conquered Yu (present-day Pinglu, Shanxi), Baili Xi eventually became the Prime Minister of Qin. His son, Baili Shi (courtesy name Mengming), served as a general for the State of Qin. Known for his bravery and military prowess, Mengming defeated the powerful army of the State of Jin, laying the foundation for Qin's later hegemony in the west. His descendants adopted his courtesy name, "Ming," as their surname.
