Interpretation of the Cui (崔) Clan Totem
Definition of the Character: The original meaning of "崔" (Cui) is "lofty" or "towering." The character structure is composed of "Mountain" (山) and "Short-tailed Bird" (隹).
Origin: The lineage originates from the Jiang (姜) surname, tracing back to the ancestor Jiang Ziya (Tai Gong) and the primordial ancestor Emperor Yan (Shennong). During the Western Zhou Dynasty, Jizi, the eldest son of Duke Ding of Qi (the second ruler of the Qi State, located north of present-day Linzi, Shandong), was the rightful heir to the throne. However, he ceded his position to his younger brother, Shu Yi (Duke Yi). Jizi then settled in his fief, Cui (northwest of modern-day Zhangqiu, Shandong), and his descendants adopted the fief's name as their surname, thus establishing the Cui clan.
