【起源】1、西周初年，昆吾的裔孙忿生被周武王任为司寇（掌管刑狱及纠察的官），封苏国，都于温，其子孙以官为氏，为寇氏。2、西周卫国始祖姬封（即卫康叔），于周成王时任司寇，其支孙以官为氏。

【Meaning】 The character Kou (寇) originally means "violent" or "aggressive," extending to imply force, compulsion, and overbearing power. In Oracle Bone Script, the top part of the character represents a large, enclosed house (radical 宀). Inside, the right side depicts a hand holding a club, appearing to reach toward and strike a person on the left. This act of robbing, committing violence, or looting inside a house is defined as "Kou." Thus, the word carries the meaning of actively invading or attacking others.
【Origin】
From the Official Title of Si Kou (Minister of Justice): During the early Western Zhou Dynasty, Fensheng (a descendant of Kunwu) was appointed by King Wu of Zhou as the Si Kou (the official in charge of criminal justice and investigation). He was enfeoffed in the State of Su, with its capital at Wen. His descendants adopted his official title as their surname, becoming the Kou clan.
From the State of Wei: Ji Feng (also known as Kang Shu of Wei), the founding ancestor of the State of Wei, served as the Si Kou during the reign of King Cheng of Zhou. His cadet descendants adopted the official title as their surname.
