【释义】寇，其本义是“暴”，引申为强力、强制和霸道。甲骨文的寇字，上部是一个封闭的、高大的房屋，从“宀”，屋内右部有一个持有棍棒的手，似手正在伸向和殴打左边的一个人，从“人”、从“手”。这种在屋内打劫、引凶及抢掠的行为称为“寇”，寇有主动侵犯他人的意思。

【起源】1、西周初年，昆吾的裔孙忿生被周武王任为司寇（掌管刑狱及纠察的官），封苏国，都于温，其子孙以官为氏，为寇氏。2、西周卫国始祖姬封（即卫康叔），于周成王时任司寇，其支孙以官为氏。

The original meaning of 寇 (Kou) is "violence" or "tyranny," which extends to signify force, compulsion, and overbearing power. In Oracle Bone Script, the character consists of a tall, enclosed house (represented by the "roof" radical 宀). Inside the house, the right side depicts a hand holding a club or stick, reaching toward and striking a person on the left (composed of the "person" 人 and "hand" 手 radicals). This act of robbery, violence, and looting within a dwelling is defined as Kou, which carries the connotation of active aggression or invasion against others.

【Origins】

1. From the Office of Sikou (Minister of Justice): During the early Western Zhou Dynasty, Fensheng, a descendant of Kunwu, was appointed by King Wu of Zhou as the Sikou (an official in charge of criminal punishment, prisons, and inspections). He was enfeoffed in the State of Su, with its capital in Wen. His descendants adopted his official title as their surname, becoming the Kou clan.

2. From the State of Wei: Ji Feng (also known as Kang Shu of Wei), the founding ancestor of the State of Wei during the Western Zhou, served as the Sikou during the reign of King Cheng of Zhou. His branch descendants adopted the title of his office as their surname.
