奚氏图腾释义

【释义】奚，本义是捕捉来的奴隶。甲骨文和金文中的“奚”字，是一个大字的人形，有一根绳索把他系住。

【起源】出于任姓，出自夏朝管辖的奚地，为黄帝之子禺阳的后裔，以居邑名氏。在传说中大禹治水的时候，有个叫奚仲的人发明了车子，帮运土石木料，有力地协助了大禹治理水患，故有“大禹治水，奚仲造车”之说。该支奚氏的始祖是禺阳，而禺阳为黄帝的二十五子之一，受封于妊地(今山东济宁)，故为妊姓，后改作任氏。奚仲后来居于薛邑(今山东滕州市)，后迁至邳邑(今山东微山)，再后又迁于邱(今江苏苏州)。奚仲过世后，被世人尊奉为车神。

The original meaning of Xi (奚) refers to a captive or servant. In Oracle Bone and Bronze Scripts, the character depicts a person (大) with a rope or tether tied around them, symbolizing attachment or service.

【Origin】

The surname originates from the Ren (任) surname, specifically from the region of Xi governed during the Xia Dynasty. The clan members are descendants of Yuyang, a son of the Yellow Emperor, and adopted the name of their place of residence as their surname.

According to legend, during the Great Flood, a man named Xi Zhong invented the chariot (wheeled vehicle) to assist the Great Yu in transporting earth, stones, and timber. This contribution was pivotal in taming the floods, leading to the historical proverb: "Great Yu controlled the waters; Xi Zhong created the chariot." The patriarch of this branch, Yuyang, was one of the 25 sons of the Yellow Emperor and was enfeoffed in Ren (modern-day Jining, Shandong), hence the original surname Ren. Xi Zhong later resided in Xue (Tengzhou, Shandong), moved to Pi (Weishan, Shandong), and eventually settled in Qiu (Suzhou, Jiangsu). After his death, Xi Zhong was revered by later generations as the God of the Chariot.
