【起源】1、帝喾有八个才德之士，称为“八元”。其中有仲堪、仲熊，他们的后代以祖辈名字为姓氏，称为仲氏。2、源自商王朝开国君主汤的佐相仲虺后代，以先祖名为氏。仲虺，任姓，名莱朱，奚仲十二代孙，是商汤属下贤相，与伊尹一起辅佐一代圣君商王汤。后裔子孙以先祖名为仲氏。

In Oracle Bone Script and Bronze Inscriptions, the character did not include the "person" (人) radical; it was simply the character for "Middle" (中). It represents ancient banners or flags composed of multiple streamers, symbolizing a central or intermediary position.
【Origin】
From the "Eight Prudent Ones" (Ba Yuan): Emperor Ku had eight talented and virtuous officials known as the "Eight Prudent Ones." Among them were Zhong Kan and Zhong Xiong. Their descendants adopted their ancestors' names as their surname, becoming the Zhong clan.
From the Shang Dynasty Minister Zhong Hui: Traced back to the descendants of Zhong Hui, the assistant minister to the founding monarch of the Shang Dynasty, Tang. Zhong Hui (surnamed Ren, given name Lai Zhu) was a 12th-generation descendant of Xi Zhong. He was a wise minister who, alongside Yi Yin, assisted King Tang in ruling the empire. His descendants adopted his name as their surname.
